Abstract
The Interfaith Youth Core is a Chicago-based
non-profit with an amazing mission
and some real challenges. By promoting
mutual respect and religious pluralism, the
IFYC finds themselves constructively
addressing one of the critical challenges of
our generation: developing tools and
relationships to combat religious
extremism. The IFYC needed innovative,
engaging tools to appeal to and interact
with their target demographic – the 14-24
year-old Facebook and MySpace generation.
The vision for their organization was to
interact with like-minded individuals around
the world while promoting respect and
caring for the community regardless of
religion or affiliations.
By offering contemporary tools and
integrating with existing social networks,
the IFYC decided to leverage technologies
already on the market and build integration
and interoperability strategies around
them. Initially, they would allow members
to “Google-Map” their interfaith activities
and link to their other content managed on
Facebook and YouTube.
