Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning: The missing links

Several catastrophic events have occurred over the past few years which have shown organizations a reason to invest in an increased
understanding of business continuity and disaster recovery planning.

Although this increased awareness is important, many organizations and individuals alike misunderstand the subtle differences between the terms 'business continuity' and 'disaster recovery'. In addition, once organizations do gain the understanding the actual planning, implementation, ongoing testing, and preparation normally fall short.

Over the next several paragraphs we will explore the true differences between business continuity and disaster recovery as well as cover a few key areas of best practices in efforts to implement an effective Business Continuity program.
