Using a Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
Provider to Reduce Implementation Costs

Abstract
Without expert help, the cost of planning and hardware expenses coupled with the
likelihood of dangerous missteps can add-up over time and lead to compromised systems
in a mission-critical situation.
After every disaster that makes the news, whether it is man-made or natural, businesses
look at their off-site disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) plans because the
topic is fresh in their minds. A drill might be scheduled, and the plans updated but that’s
really about it. Very few businesses integrate DR and BC into their everyday processes
because it is disruptive and can be quite expensive – especially to the layman who does
not know how to get maximum value from their systems.
That is really the issue at the heart of a streamlined DR and/or BC plan: it requires a
network of carefully placed system components that, if working properly, will maintain a
stronghold that resists most disaster situations. When this network is designed by a person
who is not well-versed in the technology, hardware or scope of the systems, coverage gaps
can be created that lead to failure.
Using the resources of a DR/BC services provider can not only dramatically increase the
success rate of a compromised system, but the economies of scale an established provider
offers can translate into big savings.
