Abstract
Two dominant themes we hear today at IT conferences and read about in IT management literature are the need to "Align IT with the Business" and "Establish an Effective IT Governance Process." Most IT departments agree with these goals in principle. The question remains, how do we get there?

Application providers have been paying attention and the market for IT business applications designed to help IT achieve these goals is forming rapidly. As with the emergence of any new solution area, early products differ greatly in capabilities, product vision and future product strategy. What are the right criteria for selecting a solution today? What are the base capabilities any solution should have? What should we look for in road map capabilities?
