Abstract
One of the oldest, but still most effective, methods to exploit IP infrastructure weaknesses and disrupt business operation is the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. Today's DDoS tools can imitate "legitimate" user activities and can dynamically change the characterization of these activities, thus making it very hard to detect and even harder to prevent the attacks. The requirement to detect zero-day DoS and DDoS attacks without false positive decisions and to accurately prevent these attacks in real-time under new vague and uncertain conditions created by the new DDoS attack tools, has become a technology challenge that is now successfully confronted with a Behavioral DoS protection mechanism.
