Abstract
According to the Gartner Group, enterprise open systems storage requirements are doubling annually. With such explosive growth, enterprises cannot afford to have poor capacity utilization of their deployed storage assets. However, numerous studies show that of the storage capacity deployed, an average of 40% of this storage is utilized, leaving more than 60% of storage assets unused. While this issue alone is not alarming, the fact is most enterprises continue to purchase more storage unnecessarily because they do not have the tools to measure this utilization.
This case study contemplates a typical Fortune 1000 enterprise where such inefficiencies are uncovered, and describes the role of Incentra Solutions in providing critical guidance to improve storage efficiency while allowing the customer to defer purchases of new capacity.
