Abstract
Much of IT revolves around data: computer systems store and process data, network and storage infrastructure move data to make sure it is highly available wherever it is needed. But ultimately, most data spends the bulk of its existence stored in a database. For this reason, databases are a central component of IT today -- everyone from employees, to business partners, to service providers, to customers need access to databases to enable compelling new applications that drive value. This centrality to the operation of the organization is reason enough to consider auditing databases. But two other forces also drive organizations to consider database auditing: regulatory compliance and security.
