  • Forecasting and Risks

The IT function is no exception to the proposition that prudent governance does not allow risk managers to drive forecast results, influencing forecast outcomes even before they are fully developed in some cases. Risk managers may well (and ought to) point out the risks being courted if a given forecast is acted upon and make a case for adopting a view of the future which is less risky without unduly sacrificing market and profit performance. They must make their case convincingly in order to prevail.

  • Integrated Fault and Security Management

Network problems such as faults and security attacks are expressed in the networks as one or more symptoms (e.g., alarms, logs, troupe tickets). Network problem diagnosis is the process of correlating or analyzing the observed symptoms in order to identify the root cause. As network faults and security attacks might show similar symptoms, it is possible to misidentify faults as security attacks and vice versa. Therefore, integrating fault and security management is important for practical network management systems in order to diagnose and fix problems accurately.
