Green IT: Separating Hype from Real Implications for Today's IT Leader
| |
| |
It has become a cliché that "in today's economy IT leaders have to cut costs and make the most efficient use of resources." In this context, concepts like Green IT are dismissed as meaningless hype or an unnecessary distraction from the day-to-day opeerations of the IT department.
However, while IT has largely been given an environmental pass as the green lobby takes on the manufacturing, energy and chemical industries, things are beginning to change. IT managers will soon find themselves confronted with their own environmental issues stemming from runaway growth in power consumption, data center construction sprawl, and growing challenge of e-waste disposal.
The good news is that IT organziations are already taking many steps to "green" their data center--even if they don't call it that. In this presenation, IT leaders will learn of the growing threat from the green movement, what is already being done to "green" the data center, how to demonstrate steps being taken to reduce the carbon footprint, and additional steps firms can take to show customers that their organization is environmentally conscious.
