Anna Tatar on Turning Business Complexity Into Clarity and Growth at ThinkScale
Aug 12, 2026Spotlight Interview: Anna Tatar on Turning Business Complexity Into Clarity and Growth at ThinkScale
In this Technology Executives Club® Spotlight Interview, Alex Jarett sits down with Anna Tatar, Managing Partner of ThinkScale to discuss how organizations can navigate complexity, identify the real problem behind a business challenge, and build a practical roadmap for growth and transformation.
Anna has spent more than 20 years in consulting, developing and refining the frameworks that ultimately became the ThinkScale methodology. Her work focuses on helping executive teams understand where misalignment is occurring across people, technology, and the business, then turning that clarity into measurable enterprise outcomes.
Throughout the conversation, Anna returns to a central idea: the world may not necessarily be becoming more complex. Organizations are becoming more aware of how much complexity already exists, and leaders need a way to break that complexity down into something they can act on.
Breaking Complexity Into Clarity
ThinkScale works with executive teams to identify where misalignment is occurring across three major areas: people, technology, and business. People includes leadership and employees. Technology includes AI as well as the broader technology environment. Business includes customers, markets, and investors.
Rather than treating those areas independently, Anna looks at how they interact and where one part of the organization may no longer be aligned with another. The goal is to identify those gaps, design the right solution, and ultimately produce measurable business results.
The ThinkScale Methodology
Anna describes the ThinkScale methodology as a four-step process: assess, design, realize, and evolve. The first step is understanding where the organization is today, where it wants to go, and what it is actually trying to accomplish.
From there, ThinkScale helps design the appropriate solution or operating model and then works with the organization to implement it. Anna emphasizes that she is not interested in simply delivering another strategy presentation. The goal is to help clients bring the solution to life and continue evolving as the business, technology, and market change.
Solve the Real Problem, Not Just the Initial Request
One of the strongest themes in Anna’s work is that the problem a client initially presents is not always the problem that actually needs to be solved. Rather than simply taking an order and executing it, Anna starts by asking why.
Why does the organization believe it needs this particular role, technology, or solution? What business objective is driving the request? Is there a larger issue that needs to be addressed first? Anna explains that this willingness to challenge the initial framing is one of ThinkScale’s most important responsibilities as an advisor.
Looking Beyond AI in Healthcare
Anna shares an example involving a healthcare organization that initially approached ThinkScale around AI, data transformation, and cost efficiency. Instead of immediately treating AI as the answer, Anna and her team stepped back and looked at the broader operating environment.
They examined how the initiative would affect leadership, workflows, workforce requirements, the data foundation, governance, security, patient outcomes, and the long-term financial model. The conclusion was that AI itself was not the opportunity. It was a catalyst within a much broader transformation.
By looking at the organization holistically, ThinkScale was able to identify multiple areas of misalignment and develop solutions across people, technology, and the business rather than simply implementing another technology tool.
When “We Need a COO” Is Not the Whole Answer
Anna shares another example involving a growing auto-parts company. The company believed it needed a COO to support its next phase of growth, but after assessing the business, ThinkScale determined that hiring the executive was only one part of the solution.
The organization also needed a broader plan for commercialization, capital readiness, investor readiness, new revenue streams, organizational structure, and the operating model required to support future growth. ThinkScale helped design that path forward before simply filling the requested position.
Anna describes the engagement as an approximately 18-month transformation with specific milestones tied ultimately to revenue growth. The organization could then bring in the right leadership and other roles within an operating structure designed to help them succeed.
Building the Commercialization Engine
A third example involves a technology company operating in the emerging tokenization market. The company already had the technology and initially approached ThinkScale looking for a director of business development, but Anna’s team found a larger opportunity.
The company did not simply need someone to pursue deals. It needed the broader infrastructure required to commercialize the business, including strategic partnerships, market education, go-to-market strategy, customer engagement, delivery readiness, team structure, and clearly defined KPIs.
ThinkScale ultimately helped create a bridge between revenue and marketing, with a commercialization system tied to monthly KPIs and specific revenue targets. As Alex summarizes during the conversation, the company was not simply receiving a vision. It was receiving an operational roadmap for how to achieve it.
Preparing for What Comes Next
Anna believes organizations must become comfortable operating in an environment where transformation never really stops. Technology is evolving faster than many organizations can adapt, and executives increasingly find themselves making decisions while conditions are still changing around them.
Anna compares it to “building the plane while flying it.” The answer is not to eliminate complexity, but to understand it well enough to know what should happen next and how the organization must continue evolving as circumstances change.
That is ultimately the role Anna sees for ThinkScale: helping executive teams zoom out before they zoom in, identify the real issue behind the immediate request, and create the strategy, operating model, talent, and roadmap needed to turn transformation into measurable results.
