Spotlight Interview: Chris Porter on How RSM Studios Helps Clients Build Better Products Faster with AI

In this Technology Executives Club® Spotlight Interview, Alex Jarett sits down with Chris Porter, Head of Studio at RSM Studios, to discuss how the company helps founders, product teams, and established organizations turn ideas into better-defined products and bring them to market faster using AI-enabled development processes.

Chris brings more than 30 years of experience in game and software development, including work with companies such as Bungie, Sega, and LucasArts. Today, RSM Studios combines that experience with custom agentic workflows and AI processes designed to help clients clarify their vision, create stronger development plans, and accelerate execution.

Turning Ideas Into a Clear Product Vision

One of the biggest challenges Chris sees is not necessarily a lack of ideas. It is getting those ideas out of people’s heads and into a form that a team can actually build from.  Chris describes this as creating the “golden document.” Depending on the project, it might be a product requirements document, game design document, North Star, or another form of product vision.

The purpose is the same: create a shared artifact that everyone can review, refine, and ultimately use as the foundation for development.

RSM Studios often works with clients who arrive with a collection of meeting transcripts, email chains, Slack conversations, notes, drawings, and ideas. The team helps turn that information into a cohesive vision and implementation plan.

Using AI to Compress Weeks Into Days

RSM Studios has developed custom AI and agentic workflows to accelerate that process.  Chris explains that AI does not make the product decisions. Instead, it helps organize information, surface options, and speed up work that previously required significant manual effort.  A game design document that Chris once might have expected to take approximately six weeks can now potentially be developed in days.

That allows clients to move much faster from initial concept to a plan they can evaluate, present to stakeholders, use to raise funding, or hand off to a development team.

Helping Clients Get From Idea to Execution

RSM Studios works with clients at very different stages.  A founder may have an idea that needs to become something investors can understand. Another client may need a prototype or minimum viable product. A small team may already have the beginnings of a product but lack alignment around exactly what needs to be built.  Established companies may come to RSM Studios looking to create a new interactive experience, improve an existing development process, or integrate AI directly into a product.

Across those situations, Chris sees the same basic need: establish a clear vision first, then translate that vision into something that can actually be executed.

Creating an Interactive Trade Show Experience

Chris shares one example involving a consulting firm preparing for several trade shows.  The company needed an experience that could attract attention in a crowded exhibition hall while also educating participants and generating leads.   RSM Studios developed an interactive game-show experience in which attendees selected professional roles and answered questions related to the client’s business. Correct answers improved the player’s environment, incorrect answers changed it in the opposite direction, and a live leaderboard created another level of engagement.  Participants entered their information to play, creating a lead-generation mechanism as part of the experience.

RSM Studios also created the product requirements documentation needed to secure internal approval and delivered the experience in time for the first event.

Taking Over When a Product Gets Stuck

In another example, an author had begun developing a game based on a children’s book, but the original development team was acquired and left the project unfinished.  The client came to RSM Studios with a partially completed demo, design materials, PDFs, email conversations, and pieces of the original vision.

RSM Studios brought those materials together, clarified what the product needed to become, and created development options based on the client’s available funding.  The project has since expanded to multiple levels and has been released on major distribution platforms.

It is a good example of the broader role Chris sees for RSM Studios: helping clients take an idea or project that may be incomplete, fragmented, or stalled and create a clear path forward.

Putting AI Inside the Product

RSM Studios is also helping clients integrate AI directly into products.

Chris shares an example involving grant writing. The original concept was to evaluate writing against established grant-writing rules. The idea then evolved into comparing a grant against previously successful submissions and identifying characteristics that might improve its likelihood of success.

Chris describes AI as an extremely fast and knowledgeable assistant. It can analyze large amounts of information and quickly present options, but human judgment should still drive the decision.  For RSM Studios, this type of work is not theoretical. Chris says he has personally shipped multiple products using AI-enabled workflows and integrations.

AI Should Elevate Craft

Because Chris has spent much of his career in games and creative development, he also has a clear view on the role AI should play in creative work.  His philosophy is that AI should elevate craft and help match craft to vision, not replace the people doing the creative work.

For RSM Studios, AI is a way to accelerate planning, development, and execution while allowing experienced designers, developers, and clients to remain responsible for the vision.  That leads directly to the larger opportunity Chris sees ahead: enabling smaller teams to accomplish more.

By combining deep product-development experience with AI-enabled processes, RSM Studios is helping clients move from scattered ideas to clear plans, from plans to development, and ultimately from vision to finished product faster.
